History

Jeannette Anna Prost was born in 1938 in Radville, Saskatchewan to Agnes and Aristide Prost. She was raised in Radville and completed her primary and secondary education at St. Olivier School. On July 4, 1959, she married Victor Verhelst. In 1961, she and her husband moved to a farm four miles west and one mile north of Radville. Jeannette Verhelst operated a successful greenhouse business and guest house. She was also involved in a dried flower enterprise and wrote several books on the subject that were published in 1991 and 1993. She currently (2010) resides in Radville.

After taking an oral history class conducted by Dr. Bob Crosby, Verhelst interviewed long-time residents of the Radville and Brooking districts. The oral history interviews, completed in 1976 and 1977, are in the permanent collection of the Saskatchewan Archives Board.

The Verhelsts have four children: Mary Jane, Jacqueline, Robert and Perry.
