Scope and content

Digital version of a publication, written by Lance Laverne Irvine, entitled, "The Magic Wand: A critical memoir of a career in education". A revised edition of an original 1995 publication, Irvine addresses the problem of 'functional illiteracy' in classrooms as a result of weaknesses in the instruction of reading and writing skills. Irvine, a retired educator who worked for twenty-five years in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, builds on concepts originally introduced in Norman Wood's "Listen and Learn" Trade English program delivered at Yorkton Regional High School.
