History

Hugh Richardson was born in London, England, on July 21, 1826. He was appointed Stipendiary Magistrate for the North-West Territories on July 22, 1876 and served in that capacity until February 17, 1887. He was located at Battleford for the first six years of his tenure, and thereafter located at Regina. He acted as a Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of the North-West Territories from February 18, 1887 to November 11, 1903, assigned to the Judicial District of Western Assiniboia, centered at Regina. He was the Senior Judge of the Supreme Court, or Chief Justice, although the latter title does not appear to have been officially adopted. Hugh Richardson died in Ottawa on July 15, 1913.
