Administrative history

The Regina Council of the Arts was a non-profit organization in Regina, Saskatchewan incorporated on April 17, 1967 under the provisions of The Societies Act. The Council's aim was to foster and promote cultural and artistic activities in Regina and the surrounding district. The Council sponsored and encouraged artistic events in Regina, such as the annual Saskatchewan Festival of the Arts; encouraged the development of local artists and facilities; and encouraged all levels of government, private and public corporations and businesses to support the arts.

The Council consisted of a board of directors and a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer. The first officers included William S. Stewart (chairman); Elizabeth Schill (vice-chairman) and Cory Cunningham (treasurer). Membership in the Council was open to organizations and individuals engaged or interested in cultural and artistic activities.

The Council was struck from the Corporations Branch register of non-profit organizations on November 14, 1968. The Council disbanded in 1972, due in part to a lack of participation by member groups and the council's inability to provide financial support to member groups.

Custodial history

The Regina Council of the Arts donated these records to the Regina office, Saskatchewan Archives in 1972. The accession number is unknown.
