W.H. (Bill) Stovin donated these records to the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan in three accessions between 2002 and 2010: R2002-236 (July 16, 2002); 2009-003 (January 5, 2009); and 2010-260 (June 21, 2010).

Scope and content

Records created, accumulated and used by W.H. (Bill) Stovin of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Includes Bill Stovin's memoir entitled Somewhere in England at His Majesty's Pleasure (and Mine): A Canterbury tale and lots of others during three and a half years in the RCAF - with attachments to the RAF, ca. 2006; 2010 obituary for Jack McLean Snelgrove, who was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and served with the RCAF as a heavy bomber pilot; Winter 1999-2000 issue of Airforce Magazine with letter written by Chris Snelgrove regarding his father, Jack Snelgrove; biographical sketch of Hugh Norman Donald Tamblyn; copy of letter from Bill Stovin to the Canadian Plains Research Center regarding Their Names Live On and the work of Doug Chisholm and Gerald Hill; and other documents.

Includes a videocassette entitled Biography: Jack Snelgrove, taped in 2001-2002 and in which Snelgrove talks about his life and service as a bomber pilot with the RCAF (434 Squadron) in Canada and overseas (ca. 3 hours in duration). The videocassette includes an audio preamble by a friend of Snelgrove's.

Also included is a videocassette containing copies of two Nightfighters Productions Inc. productions, entitled Last Flight to Berlin, produced in 2004; and Halifax at War - The Story of a Bomber, produced in 2005. Last Flight to Berlin tells the story of Robert Linnell's journey to discover information regarding his father, Lloyd Linnell, a member of the 434 Squadron who was shot down and killed north of Berlin, Germany on January 29, 1944 while piloting a Halifax aircraft. The productions include interviews with various individuals, including Jack Snelgrove; Jack Pollard; Peter Spoden; Stephen Harris; Eric Hockey; Douglas Newham; Eleanor Harrison; Verna Meckling; and Art Meckling. Halifax at War: The Story of a Bomber, narrated by Bruce Hayward, directed by James Hyslop, and executive produced by Robert Linnell, includes archival footage of the Halifax and footage of a restoration project by the Halifax Aircraft Association.
