Biographical history

Bernhard Henry Wiens was born in 1945 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. He served as an NDP MLA in the Saskatchewan Legislature from 1991 to 1999. He held a number of cabinet posts including: Minister of Agriculture and Food; Minister of Highways and Transportation; Minister of the Environment and Public Safety; Minister of the Environment and Resource Management; Minister Responsible for the Crown Investments Corporation; Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs; and Provincial Secretary. He currently (2010) resides near Herschel, Saskatchewan.

Custodial history

Berny Wiens donated these records to the Regina office, Saskatchewan Archives, in one accession in 2009: 2009-348 (March 30, 2009).

Scope and content

This series consists of Berny and Cheralyn Wiens' personal records. The records consist mainly of administrative records Berny Wiens created, accumulated and used as president of the Saskatchewan School Trustees Association and the Canadian School Board Association; as a University of Regina Governor; and as a private consultant. Also included are Wiens family records, including farm administrative records; administrative and informational literature related to their adherence to the Mennonite faith; and the educational records of Berny, his children, and for a foster child that stayed with the Wiens family.

The types of records included are mainly correspondence, memoranda, agendas, briefing notes, research notes, financial records, contracts, legal documentation, photographs, electronic records, an object, and a map.
