Biographical history

Bernhard Henry Wiens was born in 1945 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. He served as an NDP MLA in the Saskatchewan Legislature from 1991 to 1999. He held a number of cabinet posts including: Minister of Agriculture and Food; Minister of Highways and Transportation; Minister of the Environment and Public Safety; Minister of the Environment and Resource Management; Minister Responsible for the Crown Investments Corporation; Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs; and Provincial Secretary. He currently (2010) resides near Herschel, Saskatchewan.

Custodial history

Berny Wiens donated these records to the Regina office, Saskatchewan archives in three accessions between 1994 and 2009: R94-077 (February 23, 1994); R96-440 (August 21, 1996); and 2009-349 (March 30, 2009).

Scope and content

This series consists of records created, accumulated and used by Berny Wiens as a member of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party and NDP caucus. The records are mainly correspondence, and briefings for election candidates and elected members.

Records described in 2004 were not arranged into sub-series. Records described in 2010 consist of three sub-series: NDP Election Materials; Political Correspondence; and Visitor Programs.

The records in this series were separated out from other series (F195-1, F195-3, F195-4, F195-8 and F 195-9) and described as a distinct series.
