Biographical history

Lorne Henry Hepworth was born in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan in 1947. Prior to entering politics, he worked as a veterinarian in Weyburn and operated a family farm near Assiniboia. Hepworth served as a Progressive Conservative member in the Saskatchewan Legislature for the Weyburn constituency (1982-1991) and as a Cabinet minister in the Grant Devine Government (1983-1991). Hepworth currently (2006) resides in Toronto, Ontario, where he is President of CropLife Canada.

Custodial history

These records were transferred to the Regina office, Saskatchewan Archives via the ministerial office of Patricia A. Smith in one accession in 1991: R91-242 (August 28, 1991).

Scope and content

This series consists of records created, accumulated and used in 1987 by Lorne Hepworth as Minister of Advanced Education and Manpower and as Minister of Education when the Department of Advanced Education and Manpower was absorbed by the Department of Education on April 1, 1987.

This series has been arranged into eight sub-series: Minister's Office; Administration; Designated Trades; Post-Secondary Institutions; Private Trade Schools; Skills Training; Associations, Clubs and Societies and Other Provinces, Federal Government and CMEC.

The types of records included are memoranda, correspondence, briefing notes, reports, legislation, publications, speaking notes, press releases, photographs and an audio cassette.
