Historia administrativa

The Merici Centre Incorporated was a non-profit private organization incorporated in Regina, Saskatchewan on July 20, 1982 under the provisions of The Societies Act. Established by the Ursuline Sisters of Bruno, Saskatchewan, the Centre was named after Sister Angela Merici, the founder of the Ursulines. The Centre, originally located in a house at 2710 22nd Avenue, was officially opened on October 25, 1982.

The Merici Centre provided comprehensive mental health services for infants from birth to age three and their parents. The impetus behind the organization was the work of Dr. Sarah Landy, a psychologist from the University of Regina, whose research showed that healthy mental, physical and emotional development in a child's first three years would provide protection from mental problems later in life. The Centre offered classes in child development and parenting; operated a resource centre; and provided in-home assessments and counseling services. Services were provided by a professional staff, volunteers and students from the University of Regina who were doing practicum training in the areas of social work and psychology. An executive director reported to a Board of Directors and worked with an advisory committee.

The Merici Centre was financed by the Ursuline Order, private donations and fund raising efforts, and received funding from the United Way, the City of Regina and the Saskatchewan Department of Social Services. On June 18, 1986, the name The Merici Centre for Infant Development was registered as the business name used by The Merici Centre Incorporated.

The Centre was closed in 1993 due to the lack of renewed funding. The Merici Centre Incorporated was dissolved on December 15, 1993.
