History

The Melfort Historical Society was formed in 1971 to set up a display of pioneer artifacts to be shown at the Melfort Exhibition, in celebration of a Melfort Homecoming event. The committee was made up of members of the Melfort Agricultrual Society. The first member were as follows: Bill Korolak- Chairman, Cora Carlton- Vice-Chairman, Marg Grainger- Secretary, Emma Whittome, Ted Morton, Roy Monsees, and Charles Koopman. In 1973 the committe felt teh need for a more permenant museum and development o a pioneer village site began. The offical openning of the Melfort Pioneer Museum was July 20, 1973. The Melfort Historical Society was disolved in 198 and seeked help from the Melfort and district community. Together they formed the Melfort and District Historical Society. In 198____ the Melfort and District Historical Society became _____ and the museum was renamed the Melfort and District Museum.
