Scope and content

Illustrated document written by Murray Cathcart relating to his experiences as a medical doctor in Frontier, Saskatchewan in 1955 and 1956. Section titles are as follows: Don't Delay; The Sod House; The Post Mortem; Falling on a Hay Fork; Community Life; About a Sad Diagnosis; Jack [Barlass] and I - As Buddies; My American Patient; Appendectomies for Free; Typical Surgeries; Obstetrics with Complications; Cases That Haunt Our Memories; The Operating Room - What's Going On; How I Became a Doctor; The Funeral Home; and Our Departure from Frontier, Saskatchewan.

Cathcart was born in Regina in 1928. In 1955, he and his wife, Ruth, moved to Frontier, where Cathcart established his first medical practice. In 1956, he left Frontier with his wife and family and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia to practice medicine there.
