Geschiedenis

Asmunder Lopston was born in Iceland on February 14, 1885, the son of Sveinbjorn and Stenum Loptson. Lopston emigrated to Canada with his parents at the age of two. They settled in the Churchbridge-Bredenbury district. Lopston attended Logbug school and Success Business College. On February 14, 1908 he married Kristin Sveinbjornson of Churchbridge.

The "Canadian Parlimentary Guide" records Lopston occupation as farmer and highway contractor. He also participated to a great extent in the public affairs of the Saltcoats, and at different times held the offices of Reeve, Secretary-Treasurer, Councillor and Mayor for the Town of Bredenbury. He also held membership in the fraternal societies of the Masonic Lodge and Order of Odddfellows. Lopston was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 1929 as a Liberal M.L.A. Lopston represented the constituencies of Saltcoats from 1929 to 1934 and Pheasant Hills from 1934 to 1938.

Lopston lost in the 1938 general election to Joseph L. Phelps of the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation. Lopston was re-elected in the general elections of 1948, 1952 and 1956 as M.L.A. for the Saltcoats constituency. Loptson retired from political life in 1960 after serving his constituents for a considerable number of years in the Legislature. Loptson died in 1972.
