A.A. Bailey fonds

This fond consists of personal and general correspondence of Dr. Bailey with his medical colleagues in Minnesota and Saskatchewan. Some of the correspondence relates to the implementation of Medicare in Saskatchewan and the doctor’s strike. The fonds also includes files relating to Dr. Bailey's work with the Canadian Neurological Society and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. It also includes minutes and memorandums from the Department of Medicine and the Laboratory and X-Ray Committee of the University Hospital.

This fonds contains personal files, correspondence, research materials, publications, meeting files, administrative records, association files and photographs relating to C.S. Houston's teaching, research and scholarly pursuits. The extensive research files primarily relate to: congenital dislocation of the hip in native people; anti-smoking activities; and the history of radiology in Saskatchewan and Canada. Drafts, files and correspondence document the preparation of publications on the Franklin Expeditions, T.A. Patrick, and R.G. Ferguson. Administrative records relate to Dr. Houston's position as Head of Medical Imaging.

Rudolf Altschul fonds

This fonds contains Professor Altschul's personal papers, including the manuscripts of his two novels, "Trilemma" and "Vorgestern und Uebermorgern," various poems, stories, and articles, as well as personal correspondence, finances, and family memorabilia. It also contains his books "Arteriosclerosis" and "Endothelium," and three books by other authors. Many of the stories, articles, and correspondence refer to the sinking of the Athenia. This fonds also contains files relating to Professor Altschul's research activities, particularly in the fields of arteriosclerosis, endothelium, and niacin.

Louis W. Christ - Portrait

Bio/Historical Note: The Department of Family Medicine came in existence in 1971 under the Deans Dr. John Gutelius (1970-1973) and Dr. Robert Murray (1973-1983). Dr. Louis Christ was the first Head of the Department of Family Medicine from 1971-1977. He later joined the Department of Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Christ died on 9 February 1983 in Saskatoon.

Roger Pierson fonds

This fonds contains materials relating to Pierson’s research interests, and his collaborative work with graduate students and faculty from medicine, nursing, veterinary medicine, and computational science. Pierson and the reproductive biology research unit made medical history when they were the first to capture natural human ovulation, witnessed with the use of an intra-vaginal probe to produce ultrasound waves. Those original images, on video tape, form part of this fonds; as do other images and data relating to Pierson’s research in reproductive technologies.

A.B. Gonor fonds

This fonds documents Allan Gonor’s active engagement with the people he met and the cultures he experienced. His was a curiosity borne of genuine interest, which manifested itself not only in his work as a physician, but also in his avocation: art; and in the numerous films and photographs he took. These document the local communities in and near North Battleford, Saskatchewan; including Hutterite colonies and First Nations reserves; as well as countries around the world. It documents his life and career, his interest in indigenous art and culture, and reflects his friendships with a wide variety of artists and writers, as well as the numerous individuals he met.
