Regimental history

Series consists of history of the 8th Recce Regiment. Much of the information in this series was used to compile a history of the regiment. This information came from official and unofficial military documents and correspondence received from former soldiers responding to a request for information. Also includes some records relating to the Legion and its members in Swift Current. Series contains eight files: Letters received - History of 8th Recce Regt., Letters 8th Recce., Battle history, VIII Cdn. Recce Regt., 14th Light Horse, Unit history, Award recommendations, and Legion & 8th Recce.

VIII Cdn. Recce Regt.

File consists of a computer-typed, bound version of the regimental history of the 8th Canadian Recce Regiment. The text from the "Battle History" document is used extensively in it.

War diaries

File consists of twelve war diaries for the 8th Recce Regiment from January to December 1944 and one from June 1, 1945, to December 1, 1945. Also includes a map of Indian Lake, Saskatchewan, with notations written on it.

Casualty list

File consists of two lists of casualties within the same book. One list includes regiment number, name and initials, rank, type of casualty, date, and a signature. All dates are in 1944 or 1945. The other list includes regiment number, rank, type of casualty, name and initials, kit in store, "Part I or C.R.", and sometimes a note about the outcome of the soldier. Entries are not dated. Also includes a separate list of names and regiment numbers without any related information.

The Carrier

File consists of three copies of The Carrier, overseas edition, a newsletter printed by the 8th Canadian Reconnaissance Regiment. Includes Vol. II (possibly Vol. I, No. 2, July 25, 1942); Vol. I, No. 4 (September 1942); Vol. I, No. 5 (Xmas 1942); and Vol. II, No. 1 (January-May 1943). Issues include poems, stories, cartoons, and other comical entries.

8th Recce Regimental Association fonds

Fonds consists of records relating to the 8th Recce Regiment Association, 8th Recce Regiment, 14th Canadian Hussars, and 14th Canadian Light Horse from 1942-2012 that were in Iver Clifton's possession. Also includes the object and records that form A.2003.12 from 1941. Fonds contains nine series: Military records, Regimental history, Reunions, 14th Canadian Hussars 50th Anniversary, Other regimental events, Correspondence, Audited DSRs 1964 No 1 to 5, Miscellaneous records, and Guest books.

Military records

Series consists of military records from the Second World War, as well as a few records relating to other military entities. Series contains seven files: War diaries, Extracts from war diaries and memoranda, Precis on MT repairs in the German army, Casualty list, The Carrier, Cadets, and Junior Officer's Guide.

Aline James fonds

Fonds consists of a bound volume entitled "The Life and Times of Helmina Hansina Aline Moen James, RN, Nonagenarian Vegetarian Extraordinaire", written by Jack A. Gordon, dated March 31, 2007. It includes a brief summary of the Moen siblings as well as a chronology listing the major events in history during Aline's lifetime and copies of many photographs. An addendum with further information and photographs was added at an unknown date.

Wilfred James Gooch fonds

Fonds consists of a photocopy of the record of service in the Royal Air Force for Wilfred James Gooch. Also includes a photocopy of a photograph of Sgt. Gooch and a letter from the Royal Air Force to Mrs. L.A. Catling regarding the record of service.

Newspaper clippings

File includes newspaper clippings about Emil George Berg or that mention him, including the marriage announcement for George and Ida.

Miscellaneous correspondence

File includes a letter about Emil George Berg's mortgage and a reply to George from the Norwegian America Line Agency, Inc., about a film he wanted to borrow.

Correspondence from George

File contains correspondence from George to his wife Ida and to his son Ingval, all written in Norwegian. The item that has "Taken from a German prisoner" on the back was likely not written by George, and it is unknown how it arrived in his possession.
