Project Love 1990 - School Supplies Kits

The Saskatchewan Bulletin, Feb. 16, 1990, front cover; "Buena Vista Grade 5 student Chad Guenter and his care-partner Mark Oleniuk, Grade 2, pack a ruler, eraser, pencil and notebook in zip-lock bags for school children, instead of exchanging valentines with their friends Feb. 14. Schools throughout the Saskatoon public school system participated in Project Love for the second year, packing about 9400 kits. 10 percent of the kits will go to needy children in Saskatoon."

This is the third year Santa's Bag has helped children, 12 and under, to buy affordable Christmas gifts. Any profits from the store go to Big Sisters."

Teacher Dwayne Drew, left, says his four-year project, with bottles alternately being dropped in the Atlantic and Pacific, has yielded a number of 'finds', usually six months to a year later, from Belfast and Newfoundland to Guam and the Philippines - and it not only gives his social studies students ' a link with the world,' it opens kids' eyes to the fact that so much is possible, when they try."
