Thorvaldson, an Icelander, who was head of the chemistry department from 1919 to 1948. Dr. Thorvaldson gained world fame for his research on deterioration of alkali salts in the soil."

She stayed to teach for several months at Wynona school? built in 1907. Miss McGill taught fourteen students in this sodded frame schoolhouse."
