Dale Miquelon fonds

This fonds contains materials primarily relating to Miquelon's career with the University of Saskatchewan. Miquelon created the first Canadian history course at the University designed for Native students; and taught numerous courses on early Canadian history and francophone Canada. These identify Miquelon as a conscientious lecturer and innovative teacher. Materials relating to Miquelon's published articles and books, as well as his unpublished conference presentations, are included. His Society and Conquest brought together in English translation many articles by French Canadian historians, making their contribution to historiography accessible to many Anglophone historians and students for the first time. His correspondence, both as student and colleague to some of the more influential Canadian historians, is of interest; as are the materials relating to University and departmental administration.

This fonds reflects Holmlund’s interest in the philosophy of education, his varied career at the University of Saskatchewan, and his concern for an equitable society. It is particularly valuable as a source for university history, specifically for the period of Leo Kristjanson’s tenure; and for issues surrounding health delivery, education, and the College of Medicine; the development of computer / IT services on campus; and First Nations educational opportunities. As a reflection of planning at a post-secondary U-15 institution, this fonds is particularly strong, notably for the materials surrounding the Issues and Options project.

The material in this fonds relates to Denham's career as a Professor of English, as well as a significant amount relating to his association with "NeWest Review" from 1983 to 1999. Denham served primarily as literary review editor for NeWest (the book review section was one of the more popular features of the magazine) and more generally as a member of the editorial board. The fonds contains materials collected and/or created by other NeWest editors, including Margaret Gail Osachoff (theatre reviews), Lewis Horne (fiction reviews), Jim Miller, Bill Waiser, and David Carpenter.

This fonds documents Dommasch's career as a medical and artistic photographer and educator. This photographic material covers a wide range of subject matter, with particular emphasis on medicine, natural history, the Canadian arctic, and grain elevators. Considerable reference material, relating to the history of photography as a science and an art, is also included. In addition, this fonds contains Dommasch's extensive collection of posters, including those used for the exhibition, "Posters Against War and Violence." This fonds contains correspondence, clippings, notes, certificates and awards, photographs, slides, sketches, posters, films and publications documenting the interests and career of Hans Dommasch.
