This series includes financial records of the Moose Jaw Camping Club, such as bank deposit books, receipt books, treasurer’s reports, a cash receipt book, and an accounting booklet from the bank.

This subseries consists of draft documents denoted by an “H” and a number in the top right corner. The subject matter varies and includes: early farming, Patrons of Industry, the opera house, the naming of Moose Jaw, and Annie Hoburg.

Drafts - K

This subseries consists of two drafts of documents that are denoted by a “K” and a number in the top right corner. The documents are about James McClelland, and the first permanent settlement in Moose Jaw.

This subseries consists of draft documents denoted by a “P” and a number in the top right corner. The subject matter varies greatly and includes: the first airshow in Moose Jaw, the Winter of 1886, the first plane over Moose Jaw, sunday picnics, three heroic boy scouts, Katherine Stinson, the Moose Jaw Cenotaph, Moose Jaw’s first autoshow, the 1916 Dominion Day parade, John MacDonald of Grant, Annie Hoburg, the announcement of the First World War, the Jack Armstrong Kidnapping, the proposed CPR Tunnel, the Cheesecloth Bungalow, the 1918 Influenza Epidemic, J.J. The subject matter varies greatly and includes: Isaac Cowie, William Poulter, Norris Lake, early ailments and cures, the first Mayoral race, the expansion of the CPR, John Wellington, the dedication of the Moose Jaw Cemetery, Charles Brandon and Henry, St. Aiden Church Stained Glass, the Zion Church, the wooden paving blocks, Dr. Campbell Douglas, the interior of St. John’s Church, a tour of the Moose Jaw Cemetery, Donald Sinclair, and early hunters, the fight for the provincial capital, background on St. Columba’s Church, and St. John’s Church. Also included are assorted paragraphs, and an unknown draft.

Research

This series contains records of research that Leith Knight conducted for her newspaper column or interest. The specific records contained are photocopies of newspaper articles and pages from published works, printed internet articles, three scrapbooks containing photocopied newspaper articles and notes, five accompanying captions for photograph slides, and a booklet on CPR locomotive No. 2634. Also included are genealogical documents such regarding the Ellis Family, and including eight copies of a large family tree of descendants of Robert Ker, compiled by Leith Knight.

This subseries consists of Leith Knight’s newspaper articles that were cut out of newspapers and kept in a loosely chronological order.

Family Letters

This series includes letters written to and from members of Leith’s family. The letters are all written by a mother and father, presumably Leith’s. The file regarding Doug includes a card and an envelope.

Certificates and Awards

This series consists of certificates and awards given to Leith by the Moose Jaw Natural History Society, YWCA Moose Jaw Women of Distinction, and The City of Moose Jaw Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee. The certificates awarded are for her contributions to Nature Moose Jaw, community enhancement, her outstanding contribution to heritage education in Moose Jaw, and education through her book “All the Moose...all the Jaw,” and her history column in the Moose Jaw Times Herald.

Family and Personal

This subseries contains photographs of and by Leith and her family, and other interests. These photographs can be of distant relatives, immediate family members, and also photographs taken by Leith on various trips such as to Maryland, United States, and Besant, Saskatchewan. Includes one photo album.

Research and History

This subseries contains photographs acquired by Leith Knight for her interest in history and use in researching for her Moose Jaw Times Herald column. It includes photographs of prominent buildings, people, and events in the History of Moose Jaw. Includes one photo album. Most photographs contained are copies of originals.

Archibald Piper fonds

This fonds contains three photographs of Archibald Piper at three stages of his life: during training in Calgary for the First World War, as a Sergeant in A Squadron on the 13th Regiment Canadian Mounted Rifles (though captioned as “O.M.R.”), and as a merchant of Massey-Harris farm implements. Also included is one photograph of men delivering grain to grain elevators in Tuxford, Saskatchewan.
