Name of creator
William (Bill) Allen was born in Bristol, England in 1892 and emigrated to Canada in 1911, homesteading at Smiley, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army in 1915 and was wounded at the Somme in 1916. In 1922 he received his B.S.A. from the University of Saskatchewan and went on to do graduate work at Harvard and Cornell, where he received his Ph.D. in 1925. He returned to the University of Saskatchewan and founded the Department of Farm Management, where he remained as Head until his resignation in 1938 to become the first Canadian Agricultural Commissioner to Britain. Professor Allen was listed as missing and presumed dead after the ship he was on was torpedoed 3 May .
