History

Larry Wayne Birkbeck was born on October 9, 1943 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to James and Noraleen Birkbeck. He was raised in Welwyn, Saskatchewan, where he received his primary education. After completing his secondary education in Rocanville, Birkbeck operated a dairy farm in the Welwyn district.

Birkbeck's political career began in 1975, when he was elected to the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly as the Progressive Conservative member for the Moosomin constituency. He was re-elected in the general elections in 1978 and 1982. Birkbeck also served as legislative secretary to Graham Taylor, Minister of Health and Gordon Dirks, Minister of Social Services. After leaving politics in 1986, Birkbeck established Venus Consulting and served on various boards and committees, including the Municipal Boundary Committee of the Saskatchewan Municipal Board and the Board of Revenue Commissioners.

Birkbeck continued to reside in Regina until his death on August 29, 2016.
