Scope and content

Illustrated memoir of Dr. Joe Brown as told to Shelley Johnson. Published by Oak Tree Publishing and produced by Focus Publishing Inc., Regina, Saskatchewan. Dr. Brown started practicing obstetrics and gynecology in 1932 and was Saskatchewan's first specialist in that field.

Chapter titles are as follows: From sod hut to brick home; Country school teacher; Temporary teaching career; Cree lesson in delivery; A lifestyle previewed; A brush with Capone; Battle for hospital accreditation; Number two licence plate; Founding of the Medical Arts Clinic; Hunting adventures and misadventures; Unforgetable patient-doctor relationships; Helen - a true soul-mate.

The publication includes references to Brown's wife, Helen (Smith) Brown, who was active in the Liberal party at the federal and provincial levels; and to various colleagues, including Dr. Hervey Jackes; Helen Smith; Sandy McMurtry; Dr. Urban J. Gareau; Dr. Harold Graham; Dr. Allan Blair; Dr. Duncan Grahame; Dr. Gordon Spooner; and Dr. Harold Spooner.
