História biográfica

Elisabeth Henriette Auguste Pasztor Brandt was born on May 29, 1922 in Vienna, Austria to Joseph Michael and Dora (Roehrich) Pasztor. She received her primary and secondary education at Langegasse, Wien from 1928 to 1937. She was unable to continue her formal education when she contracted polio at age fifteen. Brandt moved to Richen, Switzerland in 1938 and to the United States in 1951. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dramatics (1955) from Arizona State University in Tempe, did graduate work in Theatre Arts at the University of California, Los Angeles (1955 to 1956) and earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Denver School of Speech (1960).

Brandt worked as a speech pathologist and consultant in Denver and New Jersey before moving to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1968. Brandt designed and established the Centre for Socialization, Communication, and Education Problems (SCEP Centre), Regina's first day program for disabled pre-school aged children and their families. She served as the Centre's director from 1968 to 1972 and later as Senior Program Consultant and member of the Board of Directors. Brandt also trained medical, nursing, psychology and early childhood education students at the SCEP Centre. Brandt worked as a consultant at Brown Camps in Moose Jaw; as a special lecturer and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Regina Faculty of Education; and as a speech pathologist in private practice.

Brandt was a member of the Canadian Society of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA) and the Saskatchewan Association of Speech-language Pathologists and Audiologists. She lectured and published widely in her field.

Brandt was the recipient of many honours, including the YWCA Women of Distinction Award (1981); the Woman of Distinction Award from the Saskatchewan Branch of Soroptinist International (1994); the United Way President's Medal and the Saskatchewan Order of Merit (1995).

Elisabeth Brandt died in Regina on September 8, 1999.

Brandt married Lewis Wolfgang Brandt, a psychoanalyst and psychologist, in 1962 in Denver. They did not have any children.
