Biographical history

Christina De Jong (nee Smith) was born to John Anthony Smith and Flora Bell Smith (nee McDougall). John (1886-1960) was originally from Bothwell, Ontario, and Flora (1888 - 1957) was originally from Rodney, Ontario. They were married in 1911, and homesteaded near Kincaid, Saskatchewan, where Christina was born. Christina became a teacher, and taught primary grades at Burke School in Melfort, Saskatchewan during the 1950s. She married Wiebe De Jong in December of 1975, and eventually moved from Melfort to Regina.

Custodial history

Albums and contents were donated by Christina De Jong to the Melfort & District Museum. Albums were originally brought from England by John Smith's parents; were kept by John and Flora Smith; were later passed to Chrisina De Jong's sister; were passed to Christina De Jong in 1982.

Scope and content

The fonds contains eight black and white photographs and one tintype in a photograph album. They remain in the order in which they were placed within the album. The photographs are all miniature portraits and, with the exception of the tintype, are mounted on a stiff paper backing. The album (one of two) was originally the property of Christina's parents, and had been brought to Canada from England when John Smith's parents emmigrated.
