Christina De Jong (nee Smith) was born to John Anthony Smith and Flora Bell Smith (nee McDougall). John (1886-1960) was originally from Bothwell, Ontario, and Flora (1888 - 1957) was originally from Rodney, Ontario. They were married in 1911, and homesteaded near Kincaid, Saskatchewan, where Christina was born. Christina became a teacher, and taught primary grades at Burke School in Melfort, Saskatchewan during the 1950s. She married Wiebe De Jong in December of 1975, and eventually moved from Melfort to Regina.
